Often selected in bouquets for weddings and funerals, the White Lily (Lilium candidum) is a type of lily native to the Balkans and the Middle East. Unlike other plants in the true lily family, the white lily grows a basal rosette of leaves during the winter, which die the following summer.
This beautiful plant has been cultivated for over 3,000 years, and over the millennia, has become a symbol of purity, rebirth and rejuvenation for many cultures.
Not for cats, though: for felines, the white lily means imminent death if ingested. Death by toxic flowers isn’t really the most rejuvenating experience. This in mind, turning up to a cat’s funeral with white lilies would definitely be in bad taste.
