No kid likes to discuss how they were conceived - but if you’re King Arthur, you really don’t want to know.
Igraine - also known as (no, really) Igerna, Eigr, Eigyr, Ygraine, Ygerne, Igerne, Iggy from the Block, Ygrayne, Igraine, Igreine or Arnive...
Where were we?
Oh yes - the beautiful Igraine was in love with Gorlois - but Uther Pendragon was having none of it, so the two of them ran off. So Uther does the only thing you really can do in these situations… which is… erm… to magically disguise himself as Gorlois so that he can sleep with Igraine. He does this with the help of Merlin of course - finally tipping the wizard from ‘morally dubious’ to ‘morally reprehensible’.
King Arthur is thus conceived, Gorlois dies that same night, and with the moral compass of a minor royal - Uther ends up marrying Igreaiyinne (or whatever she’s calling herself now) and practically no-one is ever happy after. The End.
Alongside Arthur’s parents, you can also find famed lover Iseult, and Grail-seeker, Bors the Younger in the Arthurian Legends collection from today.
