Beautiful Butterflies

The internet’s favourite moth - the Venezuelan Poodle Moth - refutes any claim that things with more than 4 legs can’t be cute. Discovered in 2009, it finally arrives in CUE today.

La Chupaleche, or Scarce Swallowtail, has a hidden fork of flesh (eugh) on its neck which, when raised, emits a foul odour to deter predators. Clever stuff - if it doesn’t smell good then it probably won’t taste good.

We don’t know much about the Blue Clipper, except that they are mainly found in South-East Asia (Thailand and Malaysia) preferring plain areas and forest edges. *sigh*  Me too, Blue Clipper, me too...

Last to spread its wings is the Elizabethan Butterfly which is considered to be the most beautiful butterfly in Europe. The males have distinguishable feathery antennae which help to detect sexually attractive pheromones emitted by females. Take that, Tinder.
