SPOT QUIZ: What was the first vampire film ever made? [No prize other than a warm smug glow. Answer below.]Just as researchers established that Casa di Giulietta was where (the entirely fictional) Juliet (categorically never) lived, so some others have decided that Bran Castle is where Count Dracula would have chilled in his coffin if he had been IN ANY WAY REAL.
That said, Bran Castle was briefly the home of ‘Vlad the Impaler’, a blood-thirsty ruler from the 15th century who spent a few months there as a prisoner of the Hungarian army. Vlad is widely considered to have ‘inspired’ (if that’s the word) Bram Stoker. Regardless, it’s an incredible building, and a great excuse to buff everyone’s favourite vampire. Get it (along with the Count) in today’s pack. ANSWER: Nosferatu. Well done if you got that.
