The Battle of Garigliano is what happens when two allies split a kingdom and immediately try to kill each other over the paperwork. Spain launched a dawn raid across a secret pontoon bridge, and French knight Pierre Terrail held one crossing solo against 300 Spaniards while artillery formed up behind him. Very John Wick. Ultimately, still not enough.

For the longest time, harvesting honey from traditional hives often meant wrecking the comb and sometimes killing the colony. Not great for the bees. Then, in 1852, Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth noticed that bees preserve a particular-sized gap between hive surfaces, now called “bee space”, (cute!) and designed removable frames around it. Bees loved it, and beekeepers have been copying his homework ever since.
