Ingenious Inventions

Forerunner to that thing in the corner of your phone you use to record TikTok videos, the Daguerrotype has now come to CUE.

This set the world alight back in the day with it’s moving images of a man on a horse and… well, that’s all. Just a man on a horse, galloping endlessly. In many ways, the original GIF.

“I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.”

Thus spake Thomas Watson, President of IBM, in 1943 - and in doing so he became one of the wrongest people in history, second only to our fact-checkers.

In his defence, he had yet to come across a Personal Computer, the sine qua non of the information era, which we celebrate today with some fetching ASCII art.  ô¿ô

Personal Computer plays well with 3 computer geniuses in the game - can you guess which ones without looking? Don’t forget to tag us on social if you managed it. (Or if you didn’t. We just crave human connection.)

Rounding out the day’s inventions we have Nails -  which date back to at least 3400 BC, hopefully along with the hammer - and the Phonograph

The Phonograph was of course another Edison ‘invention’ - but before the Edison-haters out there point out that he didn’t invent the light bulb, remember that the man himself once said:

“My so-called inventions already existed in the environment. I’ve created nothing. Nobody does.”
