LAUGHING KOOKABURRA

Also known as the ‘bushman’s alarm clock’, the Laughing Kookaburra is a common enough sight in Australia - even to the extent that it’s considered a pest by some farmers as they attack fowl.

You may well have heard or sung the Kookaburra song (‘Merry, merry king of the bush is he’, etc.), but did you know that in 2011 the copyright holders successfully sued the Australian band Men At Work for backdated royalties? This was because the flute riff from their huge 1981 hit ‘Down Under’ copied ‘a substantial part of Kookaburra’.
