New Phillis Wheatley Card

Dan

It's Black History Month in the United States, and CUE is celebrating with some special cards highlighting prominent and amazing African American people from across history.

We'll release a new one every Sunday, throughout the month of February, starting today with the remarkable Phillis Wheatley, who joins The Write Stuff.

She was sold into slavery at age seven and sent from West Africa to North America. Fortunately, she was bought by a family who recognised her talent for poetry and encouraged her to write what would eventually become Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, which would be the first collection of poetry by an African-American author ever published.
