In February 1976, Elvis Presley flew his private jet from Memphis to Denver in the middle of the night just to eat a sandwich. Specifically, the Fool's Gold Loaf: a hollowed-out loaf stuffed with a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly and a pound of bacon. 22 were waiting in the hangar. He ate on the runway with champagne, then flew home.

During London's 1782 flu epidemic, Prussian showman and self-proclaimed "Greatest Philosopher in the Known World" Gustavus Katterfelto packed out theatres with his solar microscope, projecting enlarged insects he claimed were causing the disease.
