Silver Arowana

Arowanas are slim, bony fish covered in thick scales with large upward facing mouths, which is what makes them so fascinating, as unlike a lot of other fish they ‘breathe’ air, sucking it in through their mouth and onto their swim bladder which bears many similarities to a lung.

With a voracious appetite and a proportionally large mouth, they eat anything they can squeeze in there, from insects to small fish - Amazingly some have been found with bats or snakes in their stomachs!

Extremely energetic they can leap up to 2 meters out of the water, picking off prey in flight or on branches above the water - which earned them the name “Silver Money” or “Monkey Fish”.
