Tantalising New Greeks

Paul

[FURTHER BOT UPDATE - see below!]

It would be almost impossible for an Extreme week to not feature the Greek Mythology collection - full of (and as of 12pm UTC, even fuller of) some of the most extreme cards out there.

Hera, King Midas and Ajax the Great already make this deck formidable, but the four new entries really push this collection up to the next level.

The torturous hellscape, Tartarus, makes your Opponent’s* 'Titans' (ie. their cards with 8 or more Base Energy) suitably excruciating to play, by making them cost an extra +4 Energy for 3 turns. (NB It targets all 8 or more Base Energy cards - but we're assuming you wouldn't include any/many of those in your deck if you're holding Tartarus...)

Titanomachy might make you skip adding a few Mythics into your deck, but it’s well worth it for the -25 Power debuff your Opponent’s Legendary cards will receive, while Niobe and Tantalus work together to eke some cheap Power out of the deck.

This week, the Fill Your Boots pack is making a comeback, so whether its your Cups, your Boots or your Coffers that need filling - we have the gems, coins, cards and generators to help with that - and they're out now!

If you’re burning the midnight oil, you might want to pop back for the Chinese Folklore re-release later, with Diyu, another hellish labyrinth joining the collection to make your cards cheaper (at the expense of a bit of burning, of course).

...and now...

BOTS GET AN UPGRADE.

Taking us one step closer to the Singularity, today we are completing a bot upgrade where they learn how to build decks based on… well, you (and every other CUE player, but we want you to feel special).

From time to time this will inevitably make bots frustratingly difficult to beat. But we figure that’s better than being frustratingly easy to beat - which is what most of the feedback has been for the last ~counts fingers~ … several hundred days.

Remember that the changes apply to everyone - new players and veterans. Bots are matched based on your performance in the game, so expect them to get tougher as you advance!

BOT UPDATE UPDATE!

Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback on the upgraded bots - it’s really helped us to understand what’s working well and where we can still improve things. A couple of adjustments we’re making imminently (i.e over the next 24 hours) are:

  • Accelerating the speed with which match-making adjusts.

The bots you are matched with are based (primarily but not exclusively) on a skill rating - similar to something known as the Elo system.

As you complete games your rating adjusts, and so does the matchmaking.

The upshot is that the most painful part of the process will be the initial adjustment (that is happening right now). We are making some changes to accelerate this adjustment so any frustrations should be relatively short-lived.

  • Removing unreasonable objectives.

While there is no single ‘meta’ deck, we do recognise that at any given time one or two mono album decks are unlikely to be contenders at the higher levels. As such those ‘Win a game with a pure Paleo deck’ objectives will be removed.

Given that it is more challenging to get a win now, we are also lowering the ‘Win X games/Gain X shields’ objectives.

Those are all the changes for now. Thanks for your patience while the adjustments take place in both casual and league!
