Tremendous Trees

Today’s theme is: Trees that are hiding something.

Sounds suspicious? Don’t worry we’ll treeat you right.

When standing underneath a tree, what are you?

We’ve thought of everything. Tweet us if the answer grows on you!

The Charter Oak is famous because it hid a Royal Charter granted to the colony of Connecticut by King Charles II, shortly before his death in 1685. His brother James II hated charters and wanted to tear them all up.

The colonists refused to give it up, hiding it in the trunk of a large white oak tree for a few years. As hiding places go, they weren’t the most imaginative, but at least they got the job done. James was overthrown in 1689 and the Colonists used the Royal Charter to govern Connecticut all the way to 1818.

The Boab Prison Tree, is it a prison? Is it a tree? Yes, it’s a tree.

Supposedly in the 1890s it was used to lock up prisoners for sentencing on their way to Derby, Australia. However, there is a little evidence for this. It is 1500 years old though, and it looks a bit like a Pokemon, if you squint your eyes a bit…

Inside the Chêne Chapelle hides a chapel. Actually, 2 chapels. The oak tree was hollowed out but is still the oldest known tree in France, living through the reign of Louis XIV, the French revolution, Napoleon, and it’s still standing even now. Legend even says that Charlemagne and William the Conqueror have visited it, scientists however think it is only around 800 years old. To me, it looks like a helter-skelter has had a baby with Ron Weasley’s house.
