Mechynorhina Torquata

Move over, goliath beetles - we've got a contender for the title of "biggest flower beetle in the world": Mecynorhina Torquata!

Move over, goliath beetles - we've got a contender for the title of "biggest flower beetle in the world": Mecynorhina Torquata! These bad boys can grow up to a whopping 55-85 millimetres in length for males, while the ladies are a tad smaller at 50-60 millimetres.

But size isn't the only thing that sets these beetles apart. The male bugs come equipped with their very own forehead horn that they can use in combat. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been enough to ward off humans.

In recent years, Mecynorhina torquata have become the latest victim of technological manipulation as humans have created cyborgs of M. torquata by implanting electrodes and a radio device. Perhaps in 100 years, we’ll look back on this as the moment it all went wrong. But it will be too late.
