Mrs Claus

Behind every great man, there's a great woman, and Mrs. Claus is no exception!

Behind every great man, there's a great woman, and Mrs. Claus is no exception! She first popped up in 1849 in James Rees' story as a mysterious traveller, who turned out to be not so mysterious after all.

Since then, she's been the archetypal Christmas figure, baking cookies and fixing Santa's torn trousers. Her 1960s comeback, thanks to "How Mrs. Santa Claus Saved Christmas," gave her some spotlight. Even Nat King Cole crooned about her in '53.

But let's not forget, even Mrs. Claus gets a bit of cabin fever at the North Pole. In Jason Robert Brown's musical "Songs for a New World”, she's shown as a woman bored with her relationship with Santa. To be fair to Mrs Claus, he does only work one night of the year.
