Mozart wrote his first opera at age 11 and went on to become one of the most celebrated composers of all time.
At age 11, most kids want to play video games or play with their friends. Unfortunately for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, video games hadn’t been invented yet, and he didn’t really have time for friends as he was too busy writing his first true opera, Apollo et Hyacinthus.
It was so well-received that Mozart was asked to write operas for Milan’s carnival and was admitted to Bologna’s prestigious Academia Filarmonica. From child prodigy to legendary composer, Mozart would go on to create a string of operas, concertos, symphonies and sonatas that changed the course of classical music forever.
Today, in his home town of Salzburg, Austria, tourists can buy everything from Mozart keychains to chocolate marzipan Mozart balls. Requiem Mass in D-licious!
